Tip #1: Chicken Soup
You've heard it time and time again, but now there may be some accuracy to the power of chicken soup. According to a team of scientists at the University of Nebraska, a cup of hot chicken soup will do you some good when it comes to your nasty cold. The broth, they say, may act as an anti-inflammatory and may ease the symptoms of a cold.
Tip #2: Hot Tea
While making chicken soup is somewhat involved, the recipe for hot tea, on the other hand, is a simple one. Boil some water and place a tea bag into your favorite mug. And while there is no definitive proof that a warm cup of tea will cure you, it could assist in loosening mucus. Add a little honey for some deserving sweetness.
Tip #3: Sleep
A lack of sleep may leave you vulnerable to catching the common cold, so if you do get sick make sure to get plenty of bed rest. Your body is trying to attack the virus so it's important to give your body a chance to fight off the infection. So slip on your cuddliest pair of pajamas, get into bed, and pull that duvet over your head. There's a strong probability that a good night's sleep or even a brief afternoon nap will help you feel better. Don't forget to put the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the doorknob-you've earned this rest.
Tip #4: Eat Yogurt
Aside from all that sweet fruit sitting on the bottom, your yogurt is actually loaded with beneficial bacteria, the hard-working microorganisms that may improve the functionality of your immune system. In non-science speak; there is a chance that the yogurt you eat may help prevent the common cold. So whether you indulge in some strawberry-banana, blueberry or white chocolate raspberry, you may in fact be providing a treat for your immune system. Bon appétit!
